effects set up question

Can the sp-808 be used as an effects box?
I want to hook it up to my mixer and have it effect the master.
I'm not sure how to set it up in the set-up screen.
I'm getting signal in the input, FX, and output, but
no FX to be heard.
What am I doing wrong?

in Mix Common [SHIFT -> MUTE], check the FxLoc:

SEND/RETURN for synths if you want to hear sample-playback

INS MASTER should work for everything else, including using the 808 as an effects-box. Using synths in this mode will cut out all other sound/sample-playback

INS RECORD if you want to sample anything with the effect engaged (if in sample mode and INS MASTER is engaged you will hear the effect but sample will capture the unprocessed signal, if not in sample mode, INS RECORD mode will mean you will not hear the effect)
