ignorant production formulas?

You ever just like using a go-to formula that you dont pay much attention to the mix down of?

sometimes i find the funnest thing to do is bang out beats in a sort of

kick snare, sample, hi-hat, FX finished.. fasion.

but the gamble for me there of course would be that when i relisten to a lot of jointz theres tracks ill like that just have a hi hat thats too loud in one point or a kick thats too quiet etc.

basically sometimes creativity > quality as far as banging out tracks goes.

It's an interesting question. Which is worth more to you, the journey or where you end up? Having fun and getting lots of stuff done is worth a lot I think, especially when you're learning your craft/instrument, gaining speed and mastery.

I'm a newbie so I'm thinking I should really go for a microwave workflow. Forcing myself to finish stuff in one single 1-2 hour-sitting. Instead of losing the fun by going back to the same beat day after day... ending up with nothing finished, I'd have lots of stuff "warts'n all".

There's nothing wrong in having fun, but when you start feel it would be even more fun to have something mixed to perfection. Well, then maybe it's time to add a different workflow and put in the effort and thought to get you there.

Long cooking Vs Microwave mustn't be an either/or-thing I suppose.

Speaking of long cooking vs microwave, I find I often start a bunch of tracks, one a night, for a couple of weeks, then let them marinade for a couple of months. When I come back with fresh ears I can often hear what needs to be done to the track next. Helps me avoid getting stuck, and while the tracks are marinating it often makes me want to work on them more. That way when I finally do get back around to them there is all of this pent up creative energy waiting to bust, lol Good times!

Great question, I tend to revisit beats where I know the proper levels of snare, kick or what not still have to be fixed whenever I'm less inspired. Then usually by the end of fixing it up I'm ready to make a new beat. Of course sometimes stuff gets tricky when having to replace pads and stuff. Lately I'm using the MV8800 and Maschine Mikro mk2 though, so then it's easypeasy.

While i like the idea of that, im way WAY too particular for that to be of any use to me. Dj Premier said something
in an interview-- and i paraphrase: "it has to be just right, because I have to look myself in the mirror
and live with it down the line."

I think thats why i jive with the SP world well-- super streamlined, easy to use machines for the overly anal-retentive beatmaker.

I feel these are some really wise words jangle soul. I feel like most of the work I enjoy from other artist came out of fun. Eventually, these artist are saught after cause it seems, with time if you were just enjoying yourself you end up mastering something without knowing it. Some straight Buddha shit, nah mean...
I guess, sure, the crock pot or microwave. If your eating good either way, does it matter?

No one gives a shit. If you're making good shit, then no matter how fast you put it out, it's not going to be fast enough. People respect rawness. It's most impactful because that's what you feel right then in that moment in time. If you dwell on it, people can feel that loss of interest as you tweak the emotion out of the track.

it all depends on what type of mood I'm in or how much energy left i have in the day.......after a long day at work...i usually half ass my beats...and when im off...i have time to plug in all the other machines im working with....cuz i tend to get to tired to plug in all these other boxes....but everything is time consuming for me....
