no sound

Post by Les Braun »

hi guys, it's been a while!

i recently got my SP-404 back from a friend who had borrowed it for quite a while
i started it up; no problems, everything looks good. there's just 1 problem; i can't hear a sound! i tried listening through headphones, also tried connecting headphones with a cable to line out, nothing works! anyone know what it might be?

thanks in advance guys

If RCA out works, a workaround would be RCA->stereo female phono jack. and long term solution would be to fix the headphone jack.

RCA test is next tho.

oh shoot it's the doooooc
thanks! i appreciate it man!

i think the problem is the volume knob... i lined the 404 out to audacity and if i used the EQ to maximize the volume i could pick up the sample sounds to the smallest volume; turning the volume knob didn't make any change in volume.
any way to get this fixed? it's good to be back!

Did you try pushing the volume pot downward while turning it to the right? Sometimes this can pop the solder points back into place. Does the knob feel loose at all? I don't solder, but I know the pot is cheap and from what other forum members say the replacement is fairly simple. If you pay to get it fixed I wouldn't spend more than $40 on the repair bill since it's only a 5 minute job.
