Just picked up one of these suckers a few weeks ago. It is a crazy machine. I come mostly from an Ableton/Maschine background but was getting bored of having everything I could ever want at my disposal. Every couple years I get the itch for some portable hardware. A few years ago I went with a Kaoss pad/KP3/MPC500 combo but that wasn't really for me. I have an OP-1 as well. So this time I decided to try out the SP 404SX and it's been a crazy ride. I go from having amazing nights with it to wanting to throw it out the window. Sometimes I know exactly what to feed into it, other times I have no clue. The thing I think I've realized though is that if you are looking for something that you can easily work up on the fly using overdubs, you might as well go back to your computer set up...this is a whole different beast, and to work in the box you have to think out of the box, which is the first ingredient in learning to do something a different way. I've learned the beauty of resampling, the gritty tones and how the SP is it's own beast. So in that respect, despite my frustrations at times this is a good thing.

I'm about 12 pages into the production techniques and they are so helpful...keep them coming for us newbies! I love reading production workflows. I even enjoy reading responses to "how do I get samples like SAMIYAM" haha
