Anyone here have or has had an sp 1200? What are the comparisons with the 404?

The SP-1200 is very cool, however extremely limited in terms of sampling time. You only got like 10 seconds.
Still, it has some of the craziest pitching I've ever seen.

The SP-404 can be fiyah too in the right hands as a lot of people here prove. The SP-404 has more effects as far as I know, 12 pads instead of 8 on the SP-1200. Might work nicer. One thing that's a definite pro for the SP-404 is it's huge sampling time, especially with a 1Gb compact flash card in it.
I hear the SP-1200 is mad expensive nowadays too by the way, a real collector's item.

Perhaps it's the swing that people seem to rave about in those machines. These comparisons are obviously a bit silly but I was wondering if anyone here has used both and what their thoughts are about this.

I have used both and will have the SP1200 and 303 at the same time in a week or two...
there really is only a few things that would make them comparable at all, first off the name and second the sequencers are very similar...obviously the SP 12 has an impercise time going on, but you do have double the BPM most times to get funky with it
the reason most SP beats sound good, is because the person is seasoned in sampling and has an ear, something you don't necessarily run across with a 400 dollar machine made in the last year or two...
I mean either the person has had the SP12 since it came out, or he has got to the point in his hobby/career where he respects the SP1200 and what it brings to the table...or they think it'll make them pete rock, put out garbage and sell it on Ebay to cop that new grand theft and a vibrating powerpad
both are nice, in terms of sheer features the SP4o4 obviously has more, sound quality (true grit and "record" like sound) the SP1200 owns...cool thing is if you can make a banger in one you can make a banger in the other...
not cool thing is that they don't work well together, the SP1200's midi numbers are old school, not in order, and since you can't reassign midi numbers on the 404/303 it's a pain in the ass and not very feasible like on the S950 where you can choose and make a template disk to work everytime

sp-12 turbos go for about 300 to 500. good thing about the sp-12 and the sp1200 is that both are built like fucking tanks so they still stand up good even today.
i think that SP stands for sample percussion 12 bit. because its a drum sampler that samples at 12 bit.
the dope thing about the emu sps tho is that its got a crazy sound and like has been said before the pitch shift on it is crazy bananas. ive only ever had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours with the sp-12 turbo not the sp-1200. but from my short experience with the unit the sp-12 has a crazy work flow.
i know some people who will pay a grand just for the sp-1200 and its sound. some people will drop the same amount on an MPC just for quantise. if you have the money then thats all cool but the reason that dope music seems to be made on SP-1200s (like stated before) is that the people who are using them seem to be fairly experienced at sampling and therefore it's obviously going to show in their tracks.
