Resampling level overload?

Little maybe dumb question but my home sound monitors are weak to control such things. sp-404 Manual explanation is foggy. so.
When I resample drum one shots with EQ applied LCD always shows red(overload level) then I press pad, if I turn down to 90-100 it becomes blue but the resulting sound is to low volume and not so cool as I played with just MFX 13 applied on that sound. Should just ignore that red light or... Need an expert opinion.

I find often I cannot get same sound of a sample with MFX after resampling. I get distortion, different sound, loss of low end- all kinds of things.

You could adjust the internal levels (RTM) to see if that helps. I have noticed more headroom on the 404SX with internal levels lowered a bit.

Use your ears not the red light- if it sounds good it is good!

setting pad volume to 115 - 120 usually does the trick ..

use the red peak as an indicator .. if you do multiple resamples and it peaks ..eventually it can fuck the mix over

Also..

some of the mfx boost the volume more than others such as chorus can peak it.. I find reverbs sometimes curves it

eq .. probly best to lower the volume of the one shots before you eq .. headroom

Sorry, I ask question because my ears can play a trick with me on such equipment tht I have)
...I remember that in manual it was written that then you adjust mic in you should adjust gain like peak indictor lights in some moments a little. So I sometimes resampled like in familiar way, just finding compromise beetween that red overloads and volume.

Ya I forgot about simply adjusting the sample's volume- I do that all the time.
Also, I often use the EQ to make my samples louder and usually have to adjust and try it before I get as loud as I can without distorting. The low frequencies being boosted will cause distortion the most.

Sometimes I actually have to go through all my samples and lower their volume because there is a lower volume sample I cannot get loud enough. It is basically like mixing on a mixer but instead of having all your channels and vol for each channel you have all your samples and adjust the vol of each sample.
