A cheap and dirty way is get a RCA to 1/8" mini cable and plug into Mic input on sound card and record playback in Reaper, Audacity, or similar software.

Or you could get an audio interface and use some better program like Pro Tools.

Play the tape back into the SP, use your normal method of getting tracks from SP to the computer (i.e. pull the card out and plug it into a card reader).

maybe I should have mentioned that I have ableton and a saffire 6 audio interface

I asked this question because I hate the way my beats sound when I track them out to ableton straight from the sp...It never really sounds like it did on the sp

if you use the line out on your sp, you should be able to match the sound on your computer, might need to fiddle with the input level on the computer or interface, but it's do-able.

Use the DAW to correct the SP's sound. Nothing in between is necessary on direct input.

EQ is probably what you'll need. Also, check your cables, try a different set, you may get less signal loss.
