i always thought about buying a multiband eq, but then it would meant that i have to buy also a soundcard with many ins, to have separate elements...Kris - KRiS - White wrote: prob end up getting a matching eq

Re: what we outboardin'?
I have a mixer/eq for that aim (yamaha 10mg something) but I don't use no more for studio because I record separate tracks and it has only a stereo out, so I use it for live situations
Another outboard I use, while I can , is fx rack (zoom 1201 studio) fx pedals for guutar/bass (boss, zoom, korg etc) to filter/bust synth or samplers...I have some compressor rack too (alesis 3630, boss cl50, joemeek 3q) but I use them from time to time, , depending on what i'm reachin and for what instrument...
I have some synth rack too (oberheim matrix1000, yamaha tx81z, roaland jv1080)

Oi Kris, which DBX did you score?
Got the DBX 266xs comp + a BBE 382i maximizer. Wouldn't call either analog, just rad. Def gonna buy more outboard gear in time, like maybe a room modelling reverb... Or an affordable stereo multiband EQ, if they exist.

out of curiosity, may i ask why you dont consider the sonic maximizer or dbx compressor analog? is it the binary logic state of the noise gate or something else?Unfolding wrote:Oi Kris, which DBX did you score?

theres usually cheap stereo eqs on craigslist
i used to have one but so many channels made it nothig more than a set it forget it situation
i picked up an old korg 7 band guitar eq and fell in love. fewer bands gave it much more immediacy for live tweaking for me
as far as analog outboard go, the moog lpf is my favorite, followed closely by the mxr dyna comp script reissue. the moog filter i use more as an awesome overdrive and the dyna comp as sweetening, but of course when i want compression or filtering thy do that too.
my favorite type of outboard in general would prob be 80s digital delays. they had such weird character, often goofier than the analog ones, with wildly vvariable sample rates and some offer old school pitch shifting
