Hi,
I've just recently got an sp404. I've recorded a pattern of drums and a sample I've recorded from my synthesizer that is in the same bpm as the pattern. I used quantize for the drums but turned quantize off to play the synth sample.
Once I've laid out the samples and saved it, everything runs perfectly in time. However when I turn off the machine and come back to it and play the pattern everything is way out of time.
Why is this??!!!

Re: Pattern out of time on SP404
If it's way out of time, I suspect the bpm has reset itself when you've turned it off. I'm not sure exactly why this happens to be honest, but for me it only happens occasionally (it might be that it does this if you switch off when in pattern mode or something, but I don't have my machine to hand to try this).
Go to the pattern mode, and change the bpm to what you originally set it to, and the pattern should be back in time again. I've wasted a lot of time having to put the bpm back to how it was, as sometimes I don't even take note of it beforehand, and it resets itself.

Yeah I've found this is the case. Don't know how to make it save the BPM. Really quite annoying.
Re: Pattern out of time on SP404
BPM setting is global to the device, you have to set it manually for different patterns, unless you have some other device that outputs midi clock data, you can set the SP to external sync.
Samples.

Thank you cartesia, I was just coming on here to search for the answer to this very question this afternoon!

Formal's workaround for this is to make voice memo pads on one bank saying what patterns run at what BPM. If you back up everything on the 404 to PC then load it up years later, you can recheck the memo and set the BPM accordingly.
