Micro Korg and SP 404

Alright so i decided to get the Micro Korg and use it with my old 404 when i get it back but my question is how exatcly does it work when I want to record any sounds from the micro onto the sp. Do i have to record each sound on each pad and play it as I build up a sample pattern or can I easily record any sounds onto the sp while Im just recording a sample pattern.

Dude, just jack that sucker into the 404 and start experimenting.

I connect my Micron to my 404 and grab all sorts of sound, sometimes I just process the Micron through the sampler's effects. There's all sorts of possibilitys.

No I got that part, Im trying to say if its possible to directly record my sounds from the Micro directly to the 404 in terms of when im in sample mode and im recording. Or do I have to directly record my Micro sounds to pads and play them that way? thanx

I'm not quite sure what you are saying, so I'll try my best. All samples on the 404, and other samplers in this series, have their samples tied to each pad. It's not like there's a separate file direcotry/bank like on your PC's file manager that you can assign to each pad, so each sample goes to each pad when you record a sample. You can plug some audio cables (Tip-Sleeve to RCA) from the line out of the microKORG into the line in on your SP-404, put the 404 into record mode (making sure that External Source is on) and then start playing your synthesizer. You can apply effects at this time. While you can trigger the 404's samples via MIDI, you can not map the sample out chromatically accross the keyboard at different pitches like some samplers (like the S300 or MPCs).

Just route the microkorg through the 404 and press the ext. source button and then record the output from your 404.

... so many people got a microkorg (me too)...
Who can give some tips in modulating the sounds...? I'm no scienstist at this... all those parameters are confusing me... For example this tight Bass (Preset A 42) How can I get the dynamic off it...? I want it straight without any "movement" (related to the tempo) Hope you understand...

Can't we share a lil microkorg knowledge around here?!

honestly u wont really get any benifit fro the microkorg without learning the parameters. it just wont happen. theres a huge plus side to this cuz certain things can be done on the fly while recording providing a very unique sound. on my page are 3 beats i made using just an sp 606 and a microkorg. i route the kord thru the sp and use its effects while reording to protools(gotta use this until i can afford a yamaha aw1600) and the feel is better doing this than programing pads. sure u can assign a segment to the pads and do something crazy but ur kinda hurting urself by not reading the manual. its confusing if u dont get filters and such right away but thats what bathroom reading is for...so u do get it

Yeah, it's true I'm really lazy on reading manuals... this microkorg manual is like mad mathematic to me... all those parameters and diagrams... but i'll give it def a chance... but one question I got:
Imagine I'm doing sth in edit selcet 1 or 2 like on the OSC1... How do I get back to the "main" editing shit (I mean the 5 knobs cutoff,reso,eg,eg,tempo) I know the solution must be in the manual but right now I've no need to go the toilet...

after you write(save ur settings if u want too) jus press the preset button that u saved it under again an youll be able to adjust the attack release etc again u can create a blank canvas and do some sweet shyt thru ur sp by holding shift 3 to get a regular sine wave. u can also record sound lock it in and play it by way of ur keys

i got the micron and the microkorg and IMO although the micron is harder to program it kills the microkorg sound wise. still though the microkorg gives some nice sounds too. i like to play melodies on both and just straight sample and then chop it up like i got it from a record. by adding some lo-fi FX and the vinyl sim you can make it almost sound like you got it from wax.

dudes probably getting @ the micron which ive heard of various ppl enjoyiing more than the microkorg cuz of, and dont quote me on this, more polyphony and "fuller" sounds. but f it tho cuz if the music sucks u suck but if u work hard @ using ur available resources u can make anything crush anything i.e madlib and his use of a 303 dilla used a mpc 3000 and they both command the same respect in hip hop. ive seen preemo using a micron while making a beat. its all about how u use ur 5 senses B, no lie
