there is no machine thats automatically gonna combine your sample and drums to be on point.

This is the kind of thing takes practice. just a few suggestions: chop, play chopps in time, readjust bpm. If you really have trouble I would suggest giving up and moving to something else for now.

Well, as I'm going through the same phase of learning how to successfully make a beat... I can tell you that some samples won't ever fit to a certain kind of drum sounds (or rhythm) even if they sound great when you hear them separately of eachother. I'm guessing that's your problem, but if it's getting the quantize right.. it's still basically the same story.

It's the same with making a painting or drawing... you can have two colors that look fine individually, but will ruin the painting's color scheme when mixed together.... same with music.

Now you're probably wondering how to 'fix' this problem. Truth is... you can't. At least not with the same samples and sounds, you will need to find samples or drums that fit together. Figuring out what fits and what doesn't fit is largely a matter of trial and error.

So ... I'd say stick with it, try to find matching music and go make those beats!!

Remember, without making mistakes you won't ever learn anything. I'd suggest to go on and just go through the processes of trial and error. :)

the easier way to do what you want is by something like acid (or similar) - but it won't fix everything. It will help stretch or squash samples to fit with each other and bring them to an approximate time.

the 404 is the anti-Acid :)

but you can use the two in combination. What the devil joins together let no man cut assunder.

Your patterns are probably clashing with the rhythms - and speed - of your orchestral and jazz lines. They might be happily starting together on the "1" but part company long before the "2".. and so on. Some jazz lines can be all over the place and folk mistake the drum beats as the time measure when it's actually the hi-hats keeping time.

Many wanna be jazz players would come to grief in jams stepping up to the drums to find them go crazy halfway thru a bar - some drummers would raise a hand and make a muppet mouth opening and closing - showing the hi-hats were the thing to swing to.

Best to try chop up your melody samples into smaller pieces - and lay them on the main beats and see if you can get some satisfaction moving them around - probably have to change your bpm or look at some form of timestretching still. It's not just going to magically fall together in the box - and if it did you would be bored after 20 mins anyway.

Also best to raid the beat-battles back catalogue - check The Arena -and see what others have done entirely in the box - to do the same as you are trying.

Oh, I think you're talking about the MPC's ability to have samples mute themselves while another specific pad plays. The 404 doesn't have an innate ability to do this, but there are some ways around it. Unfortunately, they're a little complicated if you're just starting with the sampler, so we probably shouldn't get into all that yet.

I also wanted to point out something about sampling jazz and classical music. A lot of times, especially in classical music, the melody and music doesn't follow a set BPM per measure. A song may always have 4 beats per measure, but the space between the beats can change, even within the same measure of a melody. It's all in how the conductor conducts. This can make it really hard to set some classic strings against a beat. It can take quite a bit of manipulation to make it fit.

If you ever listen to Strauss' interpretations of Mozart's work, you can hear how different classical music set to a concrete BPM sounds ("Quantized" as it were). It's somewhat strange. Most Midi versions of classical songs have the same perfect rhythm, which actually makes the pieces sound stilted and lifeless.

the roland mv-8000!!!!
Hey vivi, you have a mv-8000 right? Can you tell me the most significant differences between the mv-8000 and mv-8800?

I can buy a MV-8800 for 1200€ (around 1900$). Would you advice me to buy the mv-8000 or the mv-8800?
