Post by GuelSP606 »

Hi..

My name is Miguel and I’m from Portugal.

I’ve just bought a Roland SP606.

But.. I’m having a problem with the software.

I’ve instaled the SP606 and P606 software and I’m having the following message errors when connecting the SP606/P606:

I use Windows XP and I’ve followed the SP606 Manual’s Instruction, purhapes something is missing me!!..

Must I download any software upgrade in Roland’s site.. or.. must I change any settings on my PC??..

I've read that some users here had faced the same problem.

Is it a driver problem??...

Please help me fix this situation.. I want to start grooving with P606 :cry: ..

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I had exactly the same problem! It's a driver issue, unfortunately. I was able to 'fix' the problem on one of the PCs I'm working on.

I don't know exactly what fixed it, but this is what I did (I've copied it from my older post):

I've got P606 to work on my parents PC. At first it didn't work there either, some conflict with a soundcard (audio-Media device).

I've figured out what went wrong though. Basically I needed to install the drivers first without the device attached, after that attach the device.

Windows will off course want to restart which is what you want to do. After that it's about 100% that Windows wants to install a Multi-media audio controller or something like that. Don't install those Windows drivers, but simply cancel. Restart Windows again and it will work.

I've also did what Mike Acosta said to me, switch all MIDI settings inside the SP-606 off at first. My current settings are 'vender driver' to "on", 'input sw on' and output src = input.

If you have questions just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Hi PHeMox

Thank you for the reply..

Today I gave another try and reinstalled the SP606 software again... and... since then.. the P606 is working fine, no more error messages (for the moment :roll:).

Don't know what happned and I didn't made any configuration at all (PC/SP606/P606) > "just "plug & played".

I hoppe It remains that way.. forever :), the dam thing works goooood.

(Well, purhapes is still too early to.. comemorate.)

Let's see what happens..

For starting SP606 & P606 I do the following:

(I let my USB cable always connected to the PC/SP, I don't have the need to remove it)

.1st Turn ON the PC;
.2nd Turn ON the SP606;
.3th Turn ON the P606;

Yesterday I saw in the "Cakewalk Forum" another suggestion/way for how to fix this unpleasent situation:

"..mokomo,

I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble launching P606.

Here is one thing you can try. Navigate to C:\program files\cakewalk\P606 and rename your template.p6t file. THen try and relaunch the app.

If this still doesn't work please contact Cakewalk or Roland Tech support and we can work through the issue..."

(IN: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=153253&mpage=1&key=sp606&#160775)

I was also determinated to try it.. but the reinstalation seemed to solve "my" problem.

For those with the same problem that I have/had here's 4 ways/suggestions for trying to fix the problem:

1. Reinstalling a few times the SP606 software (my case);
2. Renameing the template.p6t file (Cakewalk Forum);
3. PHeMoX's cancelling form and respective settings;
4. Reisntalling WinXP (I saw somewhere that it may also fix );

Well, if anyone need any kind of help, please feel free to post.

PHeMox, once again thank you for the reply.

P606 is essentially a simple version of Cakewalk's Kinetic software, so yeah switching between those won't be a big issue of having to learn something all over again.

I don't know the latest version of the Kinetic software, but there might be some differences by now as version 2 was already released and so on...

I use Sonar PE 6 with my sp, and it works pretty well, however, Sonar is on a whole other level than Kinetic or the P606 soft. There is little if any information on using the two (sonar and the 606), but with the provided MIDI implementation in the manual you can find a way to use the two quite effectively...

I'll be damned ...

I'm still unable to get P606 to work on one of my other PCs at the moment. I've tried everything I did like on my other PC that gave the same errors, nothing seems to be working. Renaming the template file did not work, nor did installing a few times. I've also tried cleaning the drivers with Roland's program to no avail.

Damn, this is getting annoying. :(

I agree! It probably doesn't help that I'm using Vista, but I am getting the same error message that others have got about my soundcard being used by another application. I've tried any number of different settings on the soundcard, disabling everything (P-606 doesn't like this, I get a different error message), only enabling the SP-606 itself as soundcard inputs and outputs (my PC can see and recognise the SP-606, USB mass storage works, drivers seem fine...?), only enabling the default playback and recording devices, etc. I've installed and reinstalled P606, uninstalled Kinetic and tried reinstalling P606... I've renamed the template file... tried different combinations in terms of switching the SP-606 on at different points in the installation... lost count of the number of reboots... none of it makes any difference.

I'm inclined to give up on P606 and stay with Kinetic 2, which I can at least install and launch without any fuss. I just need to work out how to get the SP-606 to recognise it, or vice versa.... :x
