SP-404SX vs Original SP-404

Post by almostskate100 »

Hey all,

I know there's a few threads on this topic already, but none of them seemed to address the main concern I had about the 404 series.

As I understand it, the SX has a few major improvements in terms of workflow (the pattern copy, etc.), but I'm more interested in the relative sound quality of the two samplers. I'm really going for that lo-fi, beat music sound, and I was wondering if the original SP-404 would actually be superior to the SX in that regard.

Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, I think the OG sounds better, gritter and warmer.

I think Heat Vision did a sound comparison test with all the effects as well and had similar feelings, if I remember.

Cool - ill have to dig around for that. A side-by-side sound comparison is exactly what I'm looking for. The main problem will be finding a seller for an OG 404, haha.

The other thing I'm sort of concerned about with the OG is that it doesn't have a pitch shifting feature? Seems kinda whack..

Neither of them have pitch shift. og is definitely my favorite sounding for what you described, I had one first and sold it and got a 404sx, i regretted it and got the og again. I like it even more than the 303
