sp 404 w zoom r8

So i just copped the Zoom r8 and its pretty ill for a standalone unit
w sequencer and its own sampler functions.

the issue Im having is that when I connect my 404 to the r8 input using an RCA to 1/4" TRS cable, my samples sound all fucked up and distorted. This doesn't happen when I use a regular cable from the headphone out on the sp to the input on the r8, it sounds fine.

Why is that? Not that I care so much about from a stereo out, I just thought that the "best" sound comes out of the 404 via the RCA line out in the back.

Any info would be appreciated. Peace

Check the input and output gain on the 404- try lower settings.
Also see if the R8 has an output gain you can adjust and lower.
