INT MIC NOT WORKING on my 40s4sx

Post by JOHNSONDONTSURF »

What's up everyone!

I'm having trouble with my internal mic, when I try to record a clap it doesn't pick up or record any sound. I know the problem has to be inside the 404 but don't have the courage to open it. I guess I'm just hoping I'm WRONG AND SOMEONE CAN HELP ME OUT AND I DON'T HAVE TO OPEN THE 404sx!!

Did it ever work? The mic is soldered right to the pcb there is not much that can go wrong with it aside from water damage or bad solder joint (which I think is very unlikely)

Just a stupid question, you hit EXT *and* MIC buttons so they're both on?

Yes, ext and mic buttons are lit and on. It must be the soldering because the other mic works and when I have a mic plugged in.

I have a homie that helped me re-solder my amp input once. I think I'll have him help me out.

Just hope nothing goes wrong!

You might want to have a new capsule on hand and just replace it- the part can't be more than a few bucks.
$0.25 in fact- I am pretty certain this is exactly what is in there:

I see you are in SoCal- I am in Los Angeles area if you get stuck and need help!

Check out the SP-404SX microphone mod I did tonight- if you like what it does you could easily implement it when you are having yours looked at.

Did you make sure the mic is turned up? Next to the mic on the very front of the unit there's a little dial which affects the gain, could be it's turned all the way down.

Wow, I thought that was just for an external mic! Learn something new every day! Thanks

Yes. the small mic knob is turned all the way up. Still haven't opened the 404 yet. Om Audio I just might hit you up in the future. Thanks
