SP-404sx setup help
Hello everyone i am new to the 404 & how different it is compared to software. i use fl studio 11 & lately iv been using abelton 8. i see many people run their 404 or sampler thro abelton & fl but i have no idea how to do it. iv looked for HOURS online trying to find a setup where i can record everything into fl or abelton. i have my rca cable but when i try to plug it into the mic input on my laptop it doesn't record. my laptop is hella old kinda so i dunno if its that or if i need a mixer or what. i would thank anyone greatly for their time to help me figure everything out on my setup. thanks again to anyone that can help. peace

Re: SP-404sx setup help
Mic is mono and not designed for that kind of input.
You need to get an external audio card. There's plenty of them to be had for cheap. I got a US-122 for free from a friend when he upgraded his outboard card.
Other people recommend M-Audio stuff. Another friend of mine had an external card for his desktop that was about the size of a thumbdrive he used frequently.
Basically though, you're going to have to get a USB audio card. No mixer needed, but there are mixers you can get that do the same thing. All you need is something USB to plug into your computer that has line-level inputs on it.
If you want to sequence notes on computer to your 404 and record the output of the 404 back into the computer, you'll need something with midi on it as well.
Here's a small cheap one to give you an idea of what to look for.
