Screen woes

Post by drpunk »

I've got a 606. Bought second hand off ebay (I know, I know  )

It's all good, apart from I have a problem with the screen and I don't know if it's a common problem or if anyone knows a simple fix.

It's intermittent (i.e. doesn't happen EVERY time), but basically I turn the unit off (after shutting down properly) and sometimes I get a load of black lines appear on the screen. Most of the screen's black, with a few clear lines.

If I turn the unit on again. the screen is unreadable. All the lines that were black don't display anything.

The way I get around it is by unplugging the unit from the wall and turning it on. This does something that causes the screen to slowly clear itself. When I turn the unit on after this it's all readable again, but depending on the contrast you can see that the displays not 100% perfect.

It doesn't really bother me while I can get around it. I'm just worried it's only gonna get worse. I did phone up some shop that repairs roland kit (number given to me by roland support) but for the price of getting it fixed I'd be as well to buy another one (I think it was like £25 for a new screen, but paying for it to be fitted was extortionate).

Thanks for your time.

Did you try messing with the screen contrast? If thats not it then it sounds like your screen may be jacked.

I have had 2 606's. The first I got was a "scratch and dent" from musicians friend so I got $75 bucks off of it. Right when I got it and used it a couple of times, the black lines started to appear when I powered it off. I would have to power it on and off a few times to fix it. I called them and exchanged it for another 606 shortly after. They didn't even charge me the diffence. They gave me a brand new one and I only had to pay shipping back.

Anyway, I have been rocking the second one for over 3 years and it also has did the wierd line thing only once or twice.
