So me and my friend are looking to make some simple, electo/house/dance music, and I was wondering if anyone could direct me towards an easily attainable and relatively cheap drum machine.
I'd like something that works similarly to the TR 909 but doesnt cost a couple G's.
Suggestions?

you could get a korg ER-1 mkII, this is a good cheap drum machine, its not amazing though. good for the price, but no substitute for a 909.
make sure you get the mkII not the original if you do..
You could try a jomox xbase 09 or 999 (909 clones)
or a novation drumstation (909 + 808 clone) (you'll need something else to sequence this though as its just a rack)

The Alesis SR16 is a real nice and affordable drum machine. Check it out http://www.zzounds.com/item--ALESR16
the problem is that good drum machines cost a lot.
if money isn't a problem then the new jomox 888 or even the machinedrum would obviously be seriously ill.
for cheaper alternatives there is the new alesis sr-18 and the akai xr-20. some people around here have negative feelings towards akai/numark/alesis but they seem pretty decent. i think the have the same features but the numark has back-lit pads. im not 100% sure though and they may actually have different sound sets.

for dj sets i have a zoom streetboxx you can get one for about 75 bucks off ebay it has samples from east west in it and is electro/hiphop based. It works well for the price and even has a built in comp/rever and pattern seq as well. I also would recomend the dr-202 ( black drum machine not sampler ) it was one of my fav's back in the day i see them on ebay for 25 bucks sometimes.
