Computer help ?

Post by Kei Kurono »

I need help. My laptop started acting up on me yesterday. whenever I close my laptop and it goes into hibernation mode, when i try to open it again it goes into Startup Repair mode. I dont know what the problem is. I'm guessing if all else fails maybe I can just reboot and reinstall windows 7 on it. But I dont have the discs. Is there a way to burn them somehow ? or would i have to pay for them ? any idea what the problem might be ?

btw when i shut down the computer properly it works fine. it only goes into startup repair mode if I just shut/close the laptop

hard to say, its possible installing some drivers could have messed it up -

because of all the manufacturer-specific features on laptops its best to get your drivers for the laptop from the laptop manufacturer's website rather than say going to nvidia to get graphics card drivers.

This happened to me it mucked up all my brightness controls/power settings/etc.

Try going to the manufacturers website and downloading all the drivers (hopefully all be in one installer) for your particular model and try installing them, it may help or may not.

You should be able to find a windows image on pirate sites easy enough which you can then burn to a disc or possibly you can get a version that will install via USB stick. Also legit versions of outdated versions of windows should be fairly cheap from a smalltime local computer shop... if they build systems theyll have a tonne of OEM versions lying around.. technically theyre only meant to sell these with a new computer, but alot sell them on the side once the next version of windows is out

get CCLEANER tick all the boxes (except wipe hard drive and files)
run it.

then go

start run >msconfig or now is just windows key + R .
type msconfig, go to startup, uncheck unwanted programs, you can kill everything usually safely, drivers are services and NOT startup applications.

if you are more tecked out go start > run or windows + r
and type services.msc and tweak and disable everything, you will need sound and internet drivers, disable all networking and remote administrations.

run cCLeaner again,

reboot.

you should shut your computer down when you don't use it, or don't close your lid, there might be a hardware conflict or any other kind of bug going on.

havnt used windows in years, but give it a shot.

oh yeah use firefox and ccleaner or chrome and you will be good for now.

If you got a mainstream, pre-built lappy, there should be factory restore partition and tools built in if cleaning your registery doesn't work. I have an HP and did this a couple of weeks ago. Just don't forget to back up everything you've created yourself and don't have up on the web everywhere. No point in backing up random data that you've downloaded off the net...it's time to start anew!

thanks for the help fam. I reinstalled windows 7 but I still can't hibernate properly but it doesn't do a start up recovery anymore so that's an improvement. I'm wondering if maybe the fan gave out ? anyway thanks for all the help.

my old laptop did this, but it would still let me put it to sleep by doing start menu-> sleep, so I just disabled it from doing anything when the lid is shut in the control panel somewhere.
