alesis hr 16

Post by fresh-produce »

I saw an early 80's alesis hr 16 drum machine at a pawn shop today for $50.
There are some kinda cool video's on youtube of people who have circuit bent them.
This pretty rad finger drummer David Haynes uses it as a drum pad for some reason, he sends the midi out to one of those v-drum sound modules. I was thinking about picking up the machine to trigger my sp 303 with. It might be fun to have something to sequence the 303 with for a change, maybe for house music or something. Also the hr 16 just kinda looks cool.

Does anyone have experience with one? Also, has anyone ever synced up the midi with an sp series sampler?

I've got an alesis sr-18 drum machine. Its the model after the sr-16, it has all the old sounds from the sr-16 plus a whole lot more of its own sounds, nowadays I just sample drum hits off of it. Its a great machine.

The HR16 was my first ever piece of electronic musical equipment. I accidentally fried it with a replacement PSU tho :(

i liked it, even tho its rather odd looking and has the instructions underneath a flat on the top! Orbital used to use them, that's why I got one.

Sequencer in it is pretty sweet. Sounds are a bit dated and the pads are plastic, not rubber.

It does have a strange charm to it tho!
