Sound Quality - Re-Sample Vs Pattern Sequencer

Post by Heat Vision »

so i never really realized it maybe im mistaken but it seems like the sound quality is better when you use the pattern sequencer and record out into something vs resampling beat to pad and then exporting via card.

perhaps the real 12 note polyphony vs cramming everything into 1 stereo or mono pad?

are my ears mistaken or is this a true fact?

I doubt it has anything to do with polyphony, overdubbing is a generational form of recording and it inherently has artifacts in the end product, especially on a SP. Depends on what sound you want, you can also mix a little of both styles and see the results.

Resampling songs should only be done by a seasoned expert in audio engineering. Its gonna sound small because you don't know what you're doing, so just put it down and leave it alone. Its true, and you have control over your samples unlike resampling, which is set in stone. If going to a DAW, then use the hottest signal by all means with patterns. You can play patterns and play pads with SPs and send it out.

resampling, vinyl sim and a lot of other mfx cut off high frequencies. gotta turn up those highs on your mixer or daw.

No one is shopping demos and selling professional glossy beats all made with the 404 to anyone to rap over. I like the rawness and imperfection. I also like when people get big sounds out of resample method, in spite of the apparent odds against it. Resample = no grid = freedom = ftwgoodtimeturnitup.

If your highs get killed while resampling just pack another snap.

Resampling by along shot. My favorite thing about the sp is being off of the grid. Its solely the groove of whatever you want to put together.
Tried some New Styles with this beat tape. I dont wanna sound the same as others but take that little bit of influence.

never been concerned with sound quality, i don't share too much so i tend to be the only one to bump my ish anyway. rawness has more flavour, resample microwave ish all the way. 404 put the mp into retirement!

different strokes and all that..

with my guitar music i seq my drums and additonal sounds on 404..

i am not a fan o the sequencer .. and the sound degradation is my sound .. adding layers n laying effects in there subtly gives a proper walkman sound to me .. i think if youpitch your stuff right nd apply effects effectively the beats dont sound to seperate like most modern digital shiite does .. no offencea digital headz

The only SP (I think) that does not file compress, ie lose some quality to conserve space, is the 404sx. All the others SPs when resampling are going to lose some quality. pattern sequencer does not have that problem since you are then recording that into a DAW, tape deck whatever.

sp sampler is better for recording than most sound cards, so if you got 2 sp's try recording to another sp and export beats like that,

It may have better quality when resampling over other SP's, but it still artifacts pretty bad about the 9th or 10th generation at lower volumes.

I don't think any sp will reduce quality when resampling unless in lofi mode, things that will contribute to reduced quality would be fx and wave interference when resampling pads together.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interferen ... agation%29

someone did extensive research on these forums and concluded resampling does NOT reduce quality. to lazy to dig up that reference. but then again i never resample as much as 9 or 10 times so your probably right about the artifacts, which i am curious about hearing .
