live loop capture on sp 404 sx

Post by meestarbrigadier »

hi guys. i'm a newbie fishie~

is there a way to do live loop capture on the sp 404 sx?
like the way ed sheeran does his one-man-band act,
like, tap out a drum beat against the guitar, sample and loop it at once (with a pedal), strum a few chords (loop that on top of the drum beat), then continue to add layers (finger picking, the like) with the same time signature, and so forth until you get to 'backup' vocals and then main vocals?

right, so, to add to that, does anyone know how to attach a pedal to the sp 404 sx to work with loops the way you apparently can with an sp 555?

best, j

Not possible. Easiest way is to just get a cheap loop pedal, cheap sampler, and a cheap mixer. This will be the most flexible easiest to use and cheapest to acquire. The loop capture on the 555 does not work exactly as advertised. Without practice and workarounds there are gaps of silence when moving your loop capture sound to the pads so you can keep over dubbing new layers.

Look into the boss rc 10, rc 20, rc 30 or rc 50 pedals.

a korg kp3 midi synced to a 404 would be another option.
4 loop "banks" that will stay in perfect time, easy to add/layer/resample

KP3 won's stay in 'perfect' time. It will drift after a while because it doesn't retrigger the loop, it simply keeps playing the loop so after a while, it will even drift from itself because it's taking the initial loop that is never retriggered based on the current tempo. It does a good job, but it's not perfect.
