Get an op-1

Post by jbl »

The first batch of op-1 dissidents have arrived. I got mine used for 550. All the complaints are weak. If it breaks, fix it. The noise is avoidable. The workflow is so nice. The synth is deep. Most people can't get deep or creative. Jump now!

The noise is avoidable? Man I must suck at that, can't get rid of it... But I know I'll miss it the moment I lose it...

Maaan, you scored one cheap. Score!

Yeah I love the multiple sequencers & ways of stacking the finger sequencers for fills. Still not across the sampler & bouncing tape tracks together, but that's OK. Been having too much fun with the synth engines.

When do we get to hear your first OP-1 joints?

Maybe soon.
Well I said the noise is avoidable but I haven't entirely achieved this yet. My headphones cancel a lot out but I'm getting a filo e11 to try and clean it up entirely. I'll get back on that. It is soooo much fun and super easy to pick up. Seriously this will always be part of my set-up. The only other piece I fell in love with like this is my 404!

Anybody want to trade something for my microsampler. Lol!

Can you midi in to the op-1
Like use an external controller/pads"?

I'm too lazy to search. And what's this noise level thing? I was contemplating selling some gear in order to purchase one. 5-700$ is pricey for me tho

Tbh if you don't know about the noise issue I doubt you've lusted after this thing long enough, lol. Anyway, it's not a big deal.
Midi out through USB, don't know about incoming but can't see why not.

One complaint right now is the sequencer isn't as easy to learn (put to tape the way I want) as everything else on it. It may be a little limited on this aspect. Record live works fine though.

The noise is simply a soft buzz in the background. It sounds warm & fuzzy & doesn't get intrusive on playback, I only ever notice it when it's not making any sound.

You can midi into the OP-1, to be honest I don't know why you'd want to. There's a few easily Googled links about midi on the OP-1. Saw a video recently where someone uses an ipad with it, giving the OP-1 extra controls (not having to change screens to use dials etc). Can't find it right now but when I do I'll link it here.

JBL: you're having issues with the sequencers? For me they're fine.
- make sure that the play point is right
- turn on the sequencer
- hold the record button then press the corresponding key for the sequence you want to play
- party hard

*EDIT* yeah the sequencers are deliberately limited too, they're like that to encourage more natural sounding play. Only the Endless sequencer can go beyond 2 bars without trickery (recording in half speed etc). Plus the Tombola's almost useless. 3 out of 4 sequencers being useful isn't bad

That will probably never get used, sorry. Plus my op-1 and 404 are drum machine enough.
Something more quirky would work. The size is right though. I would do a monotribe. Or maybe a looper of some kind. But even then, shipping will cost me an arm and a leg, I'm afraid.
I also am looking to get rid of my sp-808 BUT I live in Japan and shipping would be a bitch, so unless you're coming here or live in Japan...

Actually, shipping isn't that bad after all or so it seems. I'll double check later. Unless a pimp looper pops up soon, I'll do it. Be warned; one of the keys is half broken off but still works.

What condition is the monotribe? V2? Modified? Box?

used micro sampler for like new monotribe, seems ok to me. about the power supply, they use the same one. I'll keep mine to save on shipping, cool? If you dont have one, its the same for both; the ka350, and costs like twenty bones. Also the manual is Japanese. So just download that. Now, do you want the flexi-mic? Shipping for me is like half the price of a brand new monotribe but that's cool if I'm helping you out, then it's worth it to me. Just be sure you want it!
