Latvian Hip-Hop Scene!

Post by Olby »

Yo, to support my brothers down here in Latvia I will post some of the videos from Latvian hip-hop scene. Enjoy!

1. Ozols & RDK - Rajons (about struggling in the projects /2000)
2. Ron White - Rap Thing (about hip-hop and oldschool in general /underground rapper /2007)
3. Gustavo - Taisna Tiesa (Gustavo dissin' Ozols /2002)
4. Fact - Creepin' Shadows (Latvian oldschool /first rap group in Latvia /disbanded /1997)
5. Eastern Block - Ready to Blast! (first single /one album wonders /disbanded /2004)
6. Gustavo & Vlady - No Lupam Lasi (differences between Latvians and Russians /they try to understand each other speaking in their native language but fail to do so /2006)
7. Picasso, Gustavo & R-Viss - Esi Brivs (about bad addictions and how they can fuck up everything in a youngsters life /2007)
8. Gacho & Emils - Musu LV (about hip-hop scene in Latvia /2005)
9. Akis - Credo (Christian rap about God /2005)
10. Gacho - Ka Lai Isak Paskaidro (about his personal life and rivals /2002)

^ Most of these are from well known Latvian rappers, but underground hip hop here in Latvia is even bigger, but because none of them has money to film a full blown video for those songs they are left in basement.

Would be nice to start a discussion about this. Considering that hip hop scene in Latvia is hardly over 10 years old. More to come...

It must be pretty big there, 'cause you definitely make nice beats so I'm sure that someone you know showed you how to make songs and I remember in one of your videos you sampled something really dope that was local I think.

Thanks 4 this Olby! Interesting. I liked the Esi brivs cartoonish video best. The first one was a bit funny to me with the dude hanging withouth his shirt on winter and all tha "G" shit going on :)

Is it true what I've heard that in the early 90's hip-hop was totally unknown over there? It's always interesting to see how these things evolve in distant places. Here in Finland the first boom started in early 80's when Wildstyle, Flashdance etc came. I remember renting Wild Style as a small boy and instantly changed my "computer hacker nickname" to Busy-Bee :)
