i want to make better drums and find making them on ableton is hard for me. i can't really make a dope drum beat. and i find all the little things i can tweak around just make me overthink and i never get anywhere. i'd love to make simple drum beats to make your head nod. i love lofi beats, so no crazy drums for me needed. ~70 BPM type shit.

while were on the subject of hardware what synths will make these nice spacey dreamy type sounds?

my buddy has a boss DR-880 drum machine for sale, are those dope for the sounds i want?

A lot of drum machines have the same sounds. My buddy just mailed me his old ass dr 202 drum machine. And i resample the sounds and im good. Find a drum machine that has good features. Could probably find the sounds online anyway. The dr 202 allows me to change the decay time, cut off and the pitch. All you really need. Cut the ends off of long tailed snares and trim a kick to thump quicker and harder. Resample it into gold.

I have an alesis sr-18, it has sr-16 sounds on it plus way more. its a better buy than the sr-16. i personally never use it anymore, i just sample other drums and i have a roland electric drum kit that i play my own drum breaks on. but if you are just gonna sample it anyway and not use the drum machine to sequence then just type it drum machines you like on youtube and sample away.

dr 202 might be the best drum machine ever, the drums are a little tinny,
but it does everything.

the tr 505 is also very cool and punchy. not shure if its analog or rom sample based though.

dr 202 looks promising. seems like a good drum machine to make chill beats.

its very fun to use. The midi works perfectly in sync with my 404 sx and it allows you to change a few of the sounds parameters to tweak em a little bit before rocking a beat. You can also use all the internal sounds to create your own user kits, like setting up a drum kit on a mpc. Pretty dope machine.

Yeah, when i first posted about it i was living in pittsburgh and my buddy let me borrow it for like a month or 2. He asked for it back so i didnt have it for a while. Now im in san francisco and he is doing a bunch of running around trying to start up his t-shirt company (time to drop a plug) lacesoutapparel.com, Buy some shit. So he mailed me a few t-shirts and the dr-202, for keeps. Now im really diving into it when before i just only scratched the surface.

The thing with the analog drum machine hardware is they only have so many sounds louded on board. They get exhausted fast.

Still siding with digging through vinyl and punching drums on SP pads.
