so, putting stuff across multiple banks and pads, i'm eventually going to get confused at a show and hit a snare or kick sound (or something), when i wanna hit something else.
right now i'm just relying on my spotty memory to recall what sounds are saved to what pads in what banks on which cards (i have it in a notebook, but you know what i mean).
has anyone made a stencil for around the pads, or using tape like on mixing boards or whatevs?
any genius ideas kicking around out there, yo?

I tend to put bassline tones or melody samples in a whole different bank (has to do with auto-chopping them with my SP-606 mainly), but when it comes to drums I usually have hi-hats on a different row, bassdrums on a different row, claps on a different row and so forth. Off course the 404 doesn't have as many pads, right, so you'll have a bit less space to do this, but 12 pads will do fine.
Anyways, using that approach I don't have to memorize anything except on which row which kind of sounds always will be. It takes some work organizing all the samples, but it's worth it. I had the same problem and figure this would be the easiest way of remembering, since I will be often switching cards, importing new samples or resampling stuff. Hope this helps.
