Samples not recording properly?

Ok this is a strange thing that happens occasionally.

I'll be recording a long sample from my turntable into my 404. When i press the pad to play back what I just sampled, parts of the sample will be missing, as if the sound "skipped" (as a CD would skip).

So then I'm left with a sample that's missing chunks of audio.

So here's the thing: When I delete all my samples and try to sample it again, it will record the whole thing no problem.

What's going on here? Anyone ever had this problem? I'm not sure what's going on here but it's a pretty frustrating problem not being able to record long samples of audio.
