one way ive kinda got this effect is to use the c cancellor and some fltering on a kick, then layering with the original. or on the mpc 2000 i turn the filter all the way to zero then turn up the resonance. not exactly an 808 but similar, good luck

Vinyl Sim, Noise Gen and Radio Tuning could be useful to make synthy sounds from scratch if they're anything like the SP-404's counterparts. Copious amounts of resampling required, obviously.
Really depends on what sample you're starting with, I guess marking after the initial transient + Comp + Filter (+ Drive) will get you close.
