latest and rawest - "Honeybird Legend"

Post by J.Daniels »

Ive been trying to school myself lately in great hip hop sample based production. As a result i came up with this track. Some of the best drums ive ever programmed on the 404, and im starting see why that shiny silver box might be my first and last sampler ever...

check it out: www.myspace.com/jontidaniels

As for the track title:

The Honeybird - A small African bird which will solicit help by leading humans to inaccessible beehives. Legend has it that failure to leave him part of the bounty could be fatal. Next time around he will lead you to the nest of a deadly snake

Man I really feel that joint, it's crazy raw.
Are all the drums one hits? I love the roll.

...and can I hear some timestretch in there? Did you use any filters or effects to make it gritty sounding?

Make it downloadable dog, I want it on my iPod.

yeah those are one shots. and i purposely sped up the sample on the turntable so i can timestretch it later for the warbled effect. I also tried to mix the track properly in digital performer, so i used some filters, compression and eq plugins that came with it.

and if you want ill send the track over

I feel that.

And yeah, it would be cool if you would send me the track. Maybe upload it somewhere and pm me the link?

Thanks. I think what your referring to is the timestretch on the bass loop. The timestretch on the sp is often complained about, but its probably one of the best things about it, and i prefer it to the smooth timestretching of modern daws

when you say timestretch - do you mean the pitch effect?
