quick one on the 404

Post by J.Daniels »

I hooked up my 404 to my axiom 25 controller ands it the exact setup ive dreaming of. The 303's sweet because of the pads, but it takes too long to process. Anyways this just a quick straight 404 track with a moog bass line and then bounced.

Entitled "Palabra":

I like that, cool choopy beat.

But man, you have serious hum problems. Maybe a grounding issue?

you have a lot of background noise going on. I can clearly hear a slight hum in the back. See usually a wave form where nothing is should be straight flat, but yours looks wobbly like this:

you can clearly see that it is not a flat line.

After normalizing the track it looks like this:
Image
now that's serious background noise.
Notice that it starts a split second after the track starts? At the beginning the line is flat, nothing is going on. THAT IS how it's supposed to be.

check your equipment and try to find out where that noise comes from. It really bothers me. And now that you know it's there, it'll bother you too.

I think that might just be the noise of the guitar amp i recorded the moog through. but ill check it out none the less. Im suspecting that it might be my mixer.

Yeah I could hear the signal hum too. Damn I guess I'm in Lupe mode since I just DL'd Food&Liquor and The Cool. Blast1 I have that Lupe sample in digi form, but when you mentioned the name of the artist I instantly remembered a record I got in Seattle in the dollar bin at Goodwill and I just looked at it and it''s by the same woman but it's not the album with Lupe's sample and there are tons fly samples, to the beatcave. Dunna nunna nunna BEATman.

Im pretty sure its actually my mixer creating the hum. There was alot of things running into that signal that was creating hum, like my turntable, and 2 mics that were accidentally not muted.

definately should cop some monitors...

You don't need monitors you need shielded cables and what not to minimize the signal interference. I have $20 sony headphones from bestbuy and I could hear it with those no problem. Unwanted signal noise will crowd your mix and push out other frequencies you want since most systems you music will playback on like car and home stereos will not have enough power to push all the freqs right and one of your higher sounds might get edged out by that low end noise hoggin all the power.

No, I been had this album before the Lupe shit dropped, when I lived in Seattle I went to Goodwill everyday before work and would literally buy 25-30 records everyday so I have some stuff I still haven't listened to. I do have that Lupe sample and most of the others he used for his Food&Liquor album.
