"Open Rhodes" Challenge...

Post by a.D. »

So I was trying to think of an idea for this next open challenge...Rhodes electric piano is my favorite instrument when it comes to beats, and really music period-also, so many of the best beats ever made have some rhodes somewhere in the mix..so the one main requirement for this one will be to have some substantial touches of either rhodes samples, patches you may have from software, rhodes sounds on mpc/eps/asr disks,keyboards,whatever-anything rhodes..or even live rhodes-'cause I know a few of you got them. (mr. i'm jealous green)

The keys don't neccesarily have to be the main sample/part of your beat-but like I said,at least some substantial touches. I know that rhodes is mostly associated with jazz, and jazzy tracks in beat production-but as most of you know the rhodes has been incorporated into pretty much every type of music-so obviously this doesn't have to end up being nothing but jazz sounding beats. Only other real requirement is an sp playing an at least somewhat signifigant part in your production-we're on the honor system here,so try to keep with that- :D

But any outside equpiment besides just records is welcome....Let's try to keep acapellas off these beats-when we end up making a mixtape out of this challenge,I'd like there to be a consisitent sound,i guess that would be the only other requirement. That brings to mind though,an acapella/remix challenge would be a nice idea for a future challenge

I'll set the deadline 2 weeks from tomorrow-that would be the night of the 24th. That should allow people enough time to participate in both this, and the arena battle if they choose. Be sure to check counts thread about the mixtapes, and my last post on the vinyl edition open challenge for info about projects we'll be doing with these challenge and battle beats.....hope yall have some fun with this, and we get a good ammount of participation--peace.

Cool..but one of the only 2 requirements for this is all instrumental-no accapellas,lyrics,etc-beats with some vocal samples are fine, but this is basically a complete song with verses & choruses. A remix I'm assuming? The beat is dope, but if you wanna submit it just take the vox out.Like I said though, hopefully we can have a remix open challenge in the near future. Peace.

So it's you on the vocals?Sounds really ill 5-only reason i made that a requirement is 'cause when this becomes a mix tape,I just want it to be consistent...like i mentioned a remix open challenge would be dope,as well as one for those of us that rap, sing, maybe spoken word,whatever..to make complete songs like this. You could still submit just the instrumental though-I see you took the link down-& i'm probably one of the only people to hear it so far,it's almost 4 in the morning here(pulling one of my all nighters)Anyway, sorry man,I feel bad, lol.

8) its cool, i might go in and remove the lyrics, but probably go and make a more 'rhodes based' track. sample a bunch of chords or something

made all with sp 404 and alesis sr 16 recorded into acid. rhodes sampled from a herbie hancock recording made as a rhodes buyers guide (pretty interesting to hear him talk about how he used it for alot of his songs, its on youtube just search rhodes piano). bass notes sampled from eric dolphy and the latin jazz quintet's "first bassline". Added some samples from old PSAs. Hope i didnt break the rules with that??? anyways hear it is...
