sp-505 performance layout

Post by doob »

hello,
i'm new to this board & to the world of sp-505 (coming from ableton).
I would like to use the sp-505 mainly for performance, but i'm not so sure yet about how to best layout the samples on the machine.
i plan to use it mostly for drums and maybe occasionally for bass & play with a guitar to it.
do you for example store loops on the pad banks or do you reserve them for one shots?
i was quite impressed by some youtube videos form the artist pursuit grooves (i dind't know her music before).. for example here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyAeLUde-aM

i would also like to get my hands free every once in a while during performance & jam with a guitar..
any help appreciated.

i think it depends on what feels most natural to you. obviously you can use loops that you get from records, or you can build loops yrself w/ resample. or you could use one-shots. i mean, it depends on what you want.

i don't use the 505 for live performance (i do that w/ my 404) but the basic ideas are the same: lay out your pads with the same shots in the same place on different banks, so you know that when you hit pad 1 yr getting a kick drum no matter which bank. use yr effects. try doing banks with yr one-shots as is, and another with them all bit-crushed (or whatever) so you can vary up the tones.

i mean, there are a million dif ways to use SP's in live situations. use the 'search' function and you'll probably find a bunch that apply.

good luck.
