funny they opened it up to all samplers but the prize only fits one, still tight though, they know we got love over in these neck of the woods, i wonder if these metal face plates are in production as part of the hype for the 404sx, probably since they are replacable metal face plates........and we get 10 free cause they saw all of us unsatisfied with their new sp and need to keep their core happy :D

Just watch, in 5 battles from now, they might give away free SP-404SXs... ;)

Also... for those who don't have the SP-404, it might be a reason to buy one. :)

Nope, these 'custom' face plates have been around for a longer time. :)

Are you sure? I am pretty sure you can delete those. It's possible on all Roland samplers.

naw, you can't delete those first (four?) banks on the 505. they're like the vestigial tail for drum machines.

but dudes, the first sample posted has a GREEEEAT break near the end of it. nobody in this battle should have trouble finding drums from what's provided.

(he says, having not begun chopping yet.....)

keesj, we have almost the exact same confusion for every single battle! i think a bit of confusion is totally natural with these situations.

.

it's really like that. you cannot unprotect those banks....
i've tried all the ways and i asked to olby, but no way...
anyway the drum break only it's ok with me.
cheers

Yeah, I'd recommend using the drum breaks in the samples. But it's really up to Keesj.

So there's no pad and key combination you can press to unlock them? Okey. :) Then there's probably no 'reset to factory settings' either?

unfortunately, no.
the 505 guru Olby also told me that.
it's strange, but in the 505 you have 16 internal banks+16 card banks, but in reality you have 16-4=12 internal banks...
...sorry for the off topic...

As for the questions...

I think basslines can be made out of the sample by using FX with all samplers, so please stick to that.

I don't think it's allowed to use other sound sources than the provided samples though!

It's still supposed to be a sampler beat battle, not a DAW beat battle, but I think it's okey to add some tweaks, as long as your main sampler piece is a Roland sampler. Obviously certain things can not be done on a SP-404, but can be done on a MV, so using a DAW to do some tweaks does level that out.

Don't make it an almost DAW-only beat though as that's certainly not the idea behind this battle. :)

Aight pplz! my beat is completed... I lowered the speed jus a lil on the first sample with the break using Cool Edit, didn't tweak the second sample... Everything was done on the Sp-606 using both samples... I call it "Faceplatez"
