Keep us updated, a lot of CF to IDE have been tried, most don't work, because it has to be a removable/bootable, basically it has to convince the SP808 that it is a CDrom/Zip.
Our best bet is to keep contacting ARtmix, hopefully they will put a bit more effort in and get the one they already have prototyped in to production

I don't currently own an 808 but would consider buying one again and backing this project if I can find one for a reasonable price. It's only the dreaded Zip disks that have currently put me off the machine.

Got the CF drive from eBay I mentioned. Wired it in. The 808 seems to recognise there is a drive plugged in and a card present as it does the moving pad light thing, but it doesn't when the card is removed. However it doesn't give the option to format, sample etc. Fuckpants! I was wondering though if it could be due to the card I am using, the blurb about the akai replacement drive LIF linked to says it only works with certain older cards. Maybe I will investigate further and if possible track down a computer geek friend to ask.

Well somewhere on this site is a link to the 808 service notes, in the service notes are the wiring diagrams. In the wiring diagrams it says the header to the zip drive is a 40 pin connector (it also shows what each of those pins do) which means you need a 40 pin compact flash card reader. You will need the make of the reader so you can hunt down its wiring diagram. You will need to compare the corresponding pin outs and switch wires around so that they match. This much I understand however I am no expert, I am not sure what else is needed. In my mind it seems that is all you would need to do but there could be something else I am missing

Yes you are missing quite a lot, the drive needs to emulate a ZIP/CDROM and be bootable.
This is never going to happen.
