Ensoniq users

Do you ,or did you have any kind of Ensoniq gear? give me your insight of that gear.I have a Ensoniq TS-12 synthesizer and a Ensoniq MR rack 64 voice expandable synth. I purchased them brand new from Alfa music in Norfolk Va. when it was born over 17 or 18 years ago. It has been awhile seance i fired up,until I purchased the SP-555,is what made me fire it up. Give us your story,Holla back ,and i,m out. Lamstamp

I used to jam on an ASR-10, ASR-X and TS-12.

My experience has been mostly good. The ASR-X felt cheaply made and the digital encoder was totally fubar'd, jolting values like a Mexican jumping bean.

They still have my most favorite sequencers on hardware of all time. Step, live, comparisons of overdubbing, replace notes, etc. Loved 'em.

I haven't use anything else but those, however.

Yup I started with ensoniq gear. I have an ASR-X and I have an MR-61 that I consider to be classic pieces of gear, especially the X. I worked on the X in my dads garage until I had a full understanding of making quality beats. Classic.

guys you two you got some fortune!!!! i always wanted to try an asrx, just lookin at it makes me love this machine...

ASR-10 can do just about anything you want. You are limited by your imagination. Sequencer is pretty cool. ASR-X can be powerful with an external sequencer.

Man, I had an Ensoniq EPS 16+. That joint sounded good! I used to have an MP2KXL as well and I have to say I do NOT miss working with disks and loading and saving and bullshit. The EPS joint was SOOO huge and fucking HEAVY! I would way rather have a microsampler or OP-1 or iPad now a days for my chromatic pitch shifting/sample chopping needs.

do you think korg microsampler sounds better on pitch?

I never got all of the sequencer refrences everyone always brings up about the X. I spent crazy hours on the piece, put every upgade they ever came out with on it ( expansion cards, 8 outputs, OS chip upgrades...etc ) and never felt I was lacking sequentialy on the unit. LoL, this reminds me of all the arguments I used to have back in the day with cats on the underground hiphop forum haha ( cause if you weren't rockin an MPC you weren't ISH!!!! ) :lol:

. Total waste of time, but I would be in the library on campus between classes online straight arguing with cats haha. I love that X though, probably because I kind a grew up with it. Truth be told if I had the loot, I probably would have copped an MP too if I could've, but in retrospect, I'm so glad I couldn't afford it at the time, cause it forced me to master my machine instead of being a gear whore ( which I have been guilty of from time to time ). But yeah, what ev's though, to each his own.

@ vynal duss, you answered your own question. Because you upgraded the os chip on the asrx you will not experience sequencer hiccups. For most people spending $150 for the EPROM is not really worth it andnthey end up selling. The red asrx pro does not experience the same issues because the firmware can be updated with floppies. I can tell you guys from personal experience that the asrx black model will skip when switching patterns ( actual audio skip) I had one and loved it, but hated the zips, wokny encoder knobs and the bad OS. I would consider getting the asrx pro tho.
