Whatup dudes,

I know I'm in the wrong place, but I want to hear from you DJs out there. What is your setups like and how do you use the 404 or 303s in your setups?

I wanna break into the DJ realm, instead of using my 404 by itself. But I know NOTHING about DJing...

If you want to use your sp with turntables make sure the mixer you buy has "Send / Return" rca's. It will make your life much easier. I have used my 404 as a kind of looper, and the 303 a long time ago for sample, vocal drops.

Yea I wish I had known about the Send/Receive stuff when I was looking for my mixer. I got a really good deal though so it's all good.

I like to run my mixer out into the SP, then the SP into my speakers. When it runs like that I like using the efx, whatever they may be, with my mixes and it's a lot of fun. With the Send/Receive (correct me if I'm wrong) you can send either line 1, 2 or both from the mixer to the SP and then use the effects, which would be WAY better than having to have efx on both decks at the same time.

It's fun to have a sort of "Serato feel" when you're still spinning vinyl

I've been doing set in Montreal for the past few month and I'm using only 404sx.

I don't know if it's the route you wanna go, but if you wanna skip mixing, using a 404sx is great.

It's really about marking the song to the part you wanna start it on, and know your song alot so you know when to drop them smoothly using effects.

I'm supposed to do a mixtape soon and i'll film it so you know what i do to mix.

Some transition I fucked, other not.

I think I mostly did delay based one, but a kind of recoard slowdown can be done using DJFX. To be honest i'm not really creative transition wise, I gotta work on that.

I filmed that while doing this;

You could just buy one turntable and a GOOD mixer and use the 404 as the other "Turntable". Even an old Stanton str8-80 for cheap, and it is a good tt. You can still use it for sampling and it has a 78 rpm (Technics don't have 78) which is good if you ever buy a sp-1200 or mpc 2000 or any sampler that has low mem and pitch change.

Anyway,

Buy a mixer, like a Vestax pro 05-pro 3, thats what I rock and everyone rocks and if you buy one used you can ALWAYS sell it for what you payed for it.

So, turntable (or CD deck or computer) to one channel of the mixer. The 404 output rca's will go to the other mixer input, HOWEVER the mixer send will go into the 404 input and you could put the mic out to the return of you wish, i don't think this is necessary.

Sounds complicated but it is not. This is one way to sample the turntable ( Or what ever) live and also play things on the 404 with only one sound source and a mixer with send return, so while the 404 is playing you can cue up the next record, with no music stoppage.

Does this make sense?

so I've borrowed a mixer with snd/rcv to play with. hooked up an sp303. works fine, super fun to play.
the transition i'm trying to achieve is that say one song plays at some bpm and another is in different bpm i move crossfader to that second tune which starts to play and the delayed(echoed) first tune fades away (only the echoed part without original tune in the back) in bpm of song 2, no need for tempo mathing between two, only echo should be in tempo of song 2.
anyone knows what i'm talking about? i heard a lot of those transitions in funk, reggae and hiphop mixes back in the day (for instance dj vadim). this is a widely used technique but i never found any description of it and i can't make it right. don't know if sp-303 is capable of this. problems i'm facing - echo captures too much unnececary sounds, echo is not in tempo (using digital delay fx), i still hear the dry part of the first song until i stop the turntable or fade the tune out..
so if anyone knows what i'm talking about/trying to achieve/understand, knows this technique, be it using the pioneer efx-1000 or other gear, please share the knowledge

thank you

Question:

I'm djing next monday night and wanted to use the ol 303. My only dilemma is that i'm playing with some guys, and don't want them messing with it when i'm done with my set. I know I can just unplug it and keep it moving, but the format is pretty fluid, with each set carrying on to the next. I'm afraid that if I unplug the 303 after im playing all the music will be stopped until they plug the mixer back into the speakers directly.. any ways to avoid this??
