that is a cassette type (iec II/typeII-position chrome-TDK) i used in the end of '90s and the beginning of '00s. i think that you could still find some.
the "crhome position" cassette was preferred to the others for it's durability but also for the fact that they preserve more the internal mechanism of the recoder more than other types. i remember that at the time i however tried the "normal position" cassettes too but after 2 or 3 recordings (and re-recording, eheheh) the sound begun to be very lofi and weird and sometimes "slowed".
this could be cool if you call yourself Wolf Eyes or Hair Police or xxxxxxxxx (put some other weird noise nice band) :)
other thing: at the time it was reccomended to use in preference the 46 or the 60 instead of the 90 (maybe for the recorder effort?)...

sorry for the quality photo, it's the webcam...

if my ears arent lying to me I think the 414 has a more clear sound, but maybe it was the tapes I was using, the 424 version of the beat kel posted is a little muffled compared to the original but maybe its the tapes, I'm still getting the 424 and some brand new tapes.

Awesome. this multitrack gave me back some of the passion for recording that software took away from me. it's good to be hands-on again with music 8)
