Drum Patterns
The 404 is my first sampler and i'm like a week into owning it. When you are making drum patterns, do you guys just sample drums from other songs, or do buy like drum packages or something like that?
Thanks

making beats....
I use samples. Samples of other drums, whether they're from a casio, an actual song, or if I can find drum hits or samples on the lappy and put it on my cf card via a card reader...also, you can make drum noises into your internal mic and apply effects to them until they sound how you like...in the new movie "control" about ian curtis(joy division) the drummer records an aerosol can hissing to mimic an electronic hi-hat. "pss"pap "pss"pap "dun dun dun".
I think that was a new order beat, but f it. you get the point.

I have a few kits on my computer I use, but I'd almost always rather sample. Especially breaks - sometimes straight up loop, sometimes take individual hits. The most fun is rearranging breaks to make them your own. The drums in the most recent beat I made (Pepper Corn - www.myspace.com/olerudmusic) are pieces from 2 completely different breaks. Try/use everything!

Yeah...you're only limited to your imagination. ...and your time here on earth.

prolly the best for drumkits...check it out man...download...and play
cant wait to hear something
and if its your first sample...dont get all like you have to sample....just yet....
give it some time and let it develop
use that site...make some beast...then like a month or two down the line....sample....its funner and more creative...

I know...it's kind of obnoxious and wack. I need something more subtle...at least until I'm as learned as Dr. Sample 303, Juxt and Mr. 606.
Anyone have an idea about what's "best battery life" for a 404? rechargeable....lithium...etc....??? I know alkalines split fast.
