"I think that resampling your parts separate would be a good way to multitrack in the 404."
-thanks springwater..someone finally gave some feed on my original question, lol. But yea,i was just kinda thinking doing this would be at least somewhat simmilar to spperating tracks on a digital recorder or whatever else sonically speaking, glad to see someone agrees. This ended up being a dope thread though-a whole lot of info and different ideas..thats part of the beauty of the sp's-their limmitations tend to actually open more doors you might not really think of with a fully equipped more expensive machine...btw,i've been checking out blu's instrumental shit and has-lo (along with virtually everything else mello music releases) as well- their sounds are drastically different but still just as ill as the others for the most part- somewhere between these two is a pretty good example of the middle ground i try to acheive..using elements of both the more modern lo-fi heavilly compressed stuff (blu) and the more traditional 90's sound(has lo)..anyway, dope shit-a lot of knowledge in all these posts.

i think you can get the top notch quality working just in the box, as long as your not making live resample beats you can always go back and tweak your levels, which would be the exact as tracking into a computer, minus the bouncing back to your computer which can usually finds a way to comprimise the quality, it is a good idea to use import / export when you can avoid using the wires. I find though, since I got an USB interface, My hiss is almost 0, except when i use my tape deck.

The best way I know of getting ultamite qualtiy is an ancient technique, record your beat live to 4 track or your digital recorder. and then you can do multi tracking too. and then record it back into your 404 just before the peak clips. and then import into your computer for a quick mastering or evening.
I usually just get consfused trying to figure out how loud im supposed to make the music, the loudness war is over but i still have a bad habbit to bang my shit out to 0 db. bad idea i know, ive been cooling it down and using the 404 limiter, its just weird recording it in and then going, hmm should i normalize to 80% , i guess its better than a metallica 30db boost.

you could sample kick to left only and snare to right only then track out to separate channels on your recorder after doing some resampling and all that, then just keep doing that until you hate yourself for denying the true reason we <3 sp's4lyf
