So on the 303, when you re-sample, you can hit a pad and record an external source at the same time.

But on the 404sx, you can't?

yea...this sucks with the 404's..it would make it so much easier to record my basslines if you could do this..like i've said-i think roland purposely leaves out certain simple features on all their machines to keep u hngry for more.

they probably did it to keep the mic from feed back. or noise in the samples, i dont like when corperations cut out features to improve general functionality, and figure everyone will agree with the change. or not notice or care. but i care, they should add more features instead of take them away, because slowly everything is moving away from features. its like on my old computer, it had all sorts of sound enhancers and something called a noise supressor, but all it did was supress me from making music.

aww that's poop. And yea the reason I asked was I just found out that the 303 can do this today and it made recording my bassline a lot easier haha. What I was doing before was sampling each note and playing out the part that way, but now I know.

Too bad the 404 can't do this cause the 303 is kinda slow and frustrates me at times.

if your using a vst for bass.you might be able to use the stereo capture on your sound card to record your baseline and then import or record it into your sampler, i always use my wave out, i never have my soundcard switched to mic, only when i want to record my 404 into the computer.

Yo dudes, just thought I would share that all the beats on I did on this album with the Captain were recorded using 303 Re-sampling/input trick. I think it gives the beats a certain co-hesiveness. My tracks are the evens.

Damn i was going to ask this same question recently. Too bad the 404 cant do this, t'would have came in handy =(.

I was thinking though. If one has a Mixer, you could plug your synth into it, and put your beat on an ipod or something and then record the audio out of the mixer into your SP :D

I have a 303 and I work with FL Studio. I got a mixer and I got a turntable.

I've been messin with the 303 but I find it to be slow and my workflow suffers.

Is it possible to use the 303 as an in between device between my turntable and my FL Studio?

Example:

I want to sample from vinyl and run it through the 303 into my FL Studio input channel.
Would this be possible? So that I can use the 303 to tweak and beef up my samples on the fly and record them into FL??

So I get the 303 sound with my favored FL workflow?

yes dude this is possible, and it actually gives you a hard core sound, its something between a mp 2500 and a sp1200. especially if you sample lofi and then record your samples into flstudio and sequence them. you can record right into flstudio but it can be a pain unless you are really comfortable with how the I/O works, and you will need a propper sound card with the asio running.

I had best results ever doing it like this, becauase you can use the sp fx and then clean everything up in the program and you always have full control over everything. some might call it cheating, but i dont think so, because its still an SP beat, just not sequenced in the sp, and your quality will be wayy better, i actually prefer frutiy loops 3, i have a portable version that is 2 mb, no need to install, no bloated sound banks. i cant post it on here, but if anyone wants it, message me and we shall conspire.

Thats awesome news yo. I got a Focusrite Saphire external soundcard so that might do the trick. Is it also possible to use the 303 both ways (I/O)? So I can work samples before they go into my DAW and afterwards when they are in the DAW. So I can control the SP while the sounds are loaded in FL?

Example: I sample a break into the 303. Filter it in the 303. Then send it into FL studio. In FL I notice that the break needs to be more beefy.

Can I then apply the 303 filters/fx while the sample is already in an FL channel? Imagine an SP being controlled inside FL studio?! haha

Instead of resampling it into the 303 again and applying the FX in the SP and then resampling it back to my DAW (FL)??

Very curious!

Just try it out!

But i'm pretty sure you will get a feedback loop unless I'm reading your description wrong.

For me, I just take the time to resample. It's a pain the the ass cause I got to unplug and replug cables so on and so forth but its whatever.

Lately I've been just making tracks on only the 303, for some reason I don't feel like using anything else. The only bad thing is that my mixes suck cause everything is resampled so I can't really tweak anything after the fact. O well

^^^

hey an do a good way to deal with that is....(works on 404sx assuming it can apply to the 303)

make a kind of rough draft of the track youre going to make using the sequencer. Adjust the levels properly, resample all of your samples. and then make the final draft with the resample method.
