speaking of both south park AND guitar hero.....

anybody see the episode where the boys become obsessed with guitar hero, and then Stan's dad comes out like 'hey, i think i can play some of these songs' and he brings out a real guitar and starts shredding, and the boys all call him gay.

Stan and Kyle get so good at the game that they get a record deal or something, and when their agent plays the demo for the big record exec, it's just an original song by Journey or something, because the kids aren't really doing shit but hitting buttons like a game of simon. it's a perfect analogy for this dubturbo thing.

I just picture some dude making "hot beatz" with this and then all of his friends getting the scrunch face and giving him props for life....aaand thats where it ends. Seems like it would be good for beginners to get familiar with how stuff is structured, but you gotta get in the trenches to really know your way in and out of sound design and "art". Reminds me of ACID loops where you can just drag some royalty free loops around and "voila" you got som hot beatz...lol. By the way...I make beats not beatz.

It can't compete with any real sampler, but this is far from 'killing music', since every program/device needs creativity in order to create something REALLY dope. It might be packed with tons of loops but people who use these should shoot theirself.

^^^Related (from viewer comments to that video)- people describing beats as being *too quantized* is bullshit.

Quantize is an all-or-nothing setting. It's on or off. That's all. Lotsa folks seem to mix it up with swing which is all about the grey areas.

Quantize snaps notes to the duration you've decided the quantize will go to. Therefore if you quantize to 1/32nd, it'll sound different to quantizing to 1/8 or 1/24. If the placement of the notes doesn't sound right to your ears, its because the note's in the wrong spot. That's the musician's fault, not quantize.
