Recording Question

Post by LilWayne »

Ok so I have my keyboard, record player, drum machine(sp-606), guitar, all hooked up to my Recording Mixer. Well I cant play through the mixer and record something onto the 606. So I feel like I bought this mixer for no reason. Anyway, so I hooked up my keyboard to the 606 and recorded something because I wanted to loop it so it kept playing the same beat. I didn't want to play the keyboard for 2-4 mins and record it on my computer then add onto it with my 606. It would get sloppy.

Anyway, so I recorded the sound onto one of my pads. I go to record and im having a tough time trying to get the right beat and measures. It keeps stopping way too early before the measure and beat loops again. Or it is playing way too long before I want it to stop.

My question is, is there anyway thats easy to record? I just want to play the one pad and loop it over and over. Trying to time the sound perfectly with the beats and measures is too difficult. Any suggestions?

I hope I am being clear enough, if not let me know and Ill try to explain more.

You're more or less are having the same problem as I am, however the solution is to play along with your beat pattern and record it externally at the same time. Getting the first note to be onbeat is a matter of practice and off course you still need to play along properly.

Just recording directly onto the SP-606 (with or without metronome on) is very difficult to get right, it's easier to record your beat and play it with some other device, plug your keyboard into your SP-606, play the beatpattern and thén record just your keyboard stuff to the SP-606 directly.

If you use the function to start recording the sample when there's sound input, you should be able to time things right.

It takes practice though and I myself haven't quite mastered it either. Recording the pattern to an external device is a hassle too (mainly because I can't get my SP-606 to get recognized as MIDI device here).

I had this problem at first also.. I realized that You have to adjust the amount of bars you want it to record the sample ( let me guess it cuts off after 2 bars).. But as you stated..

It keeps stopping way too early before the measure and beat loops again. Or it is playing way too long before I want it to stop.

Let it play way to long you can hit the stop button when you want it to stop.. then just go into the sample loop edit and adjust your end time, so it will end your sample where you want it..
