hey! what do all you knob twiddlers use? it's always interesting to find out what other people use to make their bleeps and bloops, I use my MC 307 groovebox with my SP404 and use a free sequencer on my laptop called energy XT. seems to work for me so far. what about youz?

First is vinyl or any sample source I can find. If it's vinyl it goes form a 1200 to a Stanton mixer to the Sp-505. After making whatever in the Sp-505, record a wav into Audacity, then load into Acid Pro 7.0 to try and eq and compress or add intros, outros...

Main sampler is SP404SX. Everything goes in there and that's where I create all the structure of the song, always trhu resampling.

I also use a small tape radio where I'll record (let's say) the resampled drum structure, then play it back so I have a guide to do the synth or sample structure. This way I don't have to resample both drum and synth/sample on the same pad.

I recently got a Korg MS2000R so alot of the sound comes from there. I also almost never create music alone. Either my roommate will play some piano for me to sample, or some friend will play guitar or othing thing and I,ll make a thing out of it. Most of my jam never leave de sampler and no one ever hears them but I just have the most fun out of them.

I do my drumming on a SPD-11 I got for almost free, it's just so fun.

That's pretty much it... OH, and Iphone apps, ALL THE TIME.

Too much stuff!! I love vintage gear and collect stuff, too. Here is what's in my aresenal:

Samplers:

- Ensoniq ASR-10
- Boss SP-202
- Boss SP-303
- Roland MS-1
- Yamaha SU-10
- Akai Remix 16
- Zoom ST-224

Drum Machines:

- Roland TR-808
- Casio RZ-1
- E-mu SP-12
- Boss DR-202
- modded Casio RZ-1

Sequencers:

- Yamaha RM1x

Synths:

- Casio CZ-5000
- Realistic MG-1

I also stay using a Roland VS-840 8-track and a Tascam 488 mk1 8-track cassette recorder. The 840 can be upgraded and modded for a CF drive but it seems to be a hassle. I'm looking to make the transition to Reaper or a Roland VS 1680 just because I'm so used to doing it all hands-on.

Yeah, the SP-202 is one of my best friends as well. It was my first sampler way back in 1998 and I incorporate it as much as possible in my work to this day.

The ASR is the go-to but I appreciate portability so that's why I own all those semi-pro/phrase samplers. I'm also a fiend for that crunchy SP-1200 sound and I can get close to it with the phrase samplers.

404SX
MPC60II
Akai S950
Akai MFC42
E-mu MoPhatt

Aside from the SP my setup hasn't really changed at all since the MoPhatt was released about 10 years ago. Got a couple more Akai rackmounts as I always pick them up if I see them at a good price, and a Casio toy sampler but it's all in storage. Pretty much only use the SP and the Akai filters these days but I do plan on utilising at least the MoPhatt again. Also just copped a Korg MicroSampler but haven't really had a chance to play with it but it looks dope
