how many bars do you usually make your patterns?

Post by Scream NINJA »

i was curious about how many bars people usually make specific elements of in their tracks.

usually for drum patterns i tend to always go 4 bars.

Melody is something that i try to go for 4 bars but usually end up with 2.

Do you guys have ideal lengths to patterns or do you just do whatever you feel is suitable at the time.

I usually do 8 bar patterns for everything and 4 bars for a chorus type thing.
It's fun to do 8 bar patterns in 8/4 time though, so you get 16 bar patters 8)

Songs are 4 or 8 bar intro and 16 verse. But do what ya like. Some of dooms stuff had no chorus just rhymes for 2 or 3 min.

i set to 99 bars w/ 40bpm so it never runs out, then play drums live w/o quantize and w/o click on. then just layer like its a non-panning 12 track

haha i had to try as well after i read that post.

quite dope actually. i always make beats the resample method so i thought "the only disadvantage aside from the polyphony is that you cant adjust the samples volume after the pattern or whatever is made."

this makes me want to start fuckin with this method =D thanks for the tip IIII.

only thing im not pleased with though is having to record into audacity  but for dope leveling its worth it.

Always depends on my mood and the song. I've done as many as half bar patterns and as long as 32.

sometimes i've done this with the sp303 in order to have a track from the debut to the end, a complete track in sum. ("in sum" is taken litterarly from italian, i don't know if it works in english :) )

All of the above. It just depends what I'm feeling and the type of song I'm trying to make.
