Well, I voted for An Owl. Although I liked most of the tunes a lot, it was the one that I gave high marks in all areas that I was listening for:

Technical Achievement (Manipulating the samples in interesting ways that made it not sound like source material)

Originality (this is mostly compared to the other entries..the cheezy 80's stab was great, if cheezy)

Jamable (did my head nod)

Overall Quality/Mood (how easily did it wash over me?)

If I had a second vote, I would've given it to Groktopus simply on the mood it invoked...very relaxing, nostalgic and chill...almost dramatic.

I think all the entries rocked, though.

the squa track is very interesting but the long (and a bit confusing) intro made my ears go elsewhere. so i esitated...maybe the next time?

Also I got to say that Unfolding Machines did a good job with that
soundcloud mix with all the beats. That's a nice way to check all
the entries.

Lots of great entries!

Elhuana - A lot of atmosphere in this one, very spacey and sad sounding.

hseiken - Very energetic and lots going on, great drums. I love that little ravey chord melody thing.

IIIII - Good beat, very cold sounding, and I love the timestretched finish, nice touch.

Unfolding Machines - The beginning kept reminding me of Boards of Canada and just realised why, if there was one more shuffled snare hit it'd be straight from Happy Cycling. Nice variety of samples.

Had to go with hseiken, great rhythm and energy.

An owl - trip hoppy feel, nice stereo effect; full song-like
Elhuana - Dark and gritty very nice
Flip - spaced out horror style
Grok - Really good; maybe takes a little too long to "take off"? sweet melody
Hseiken - nice and glitchy and deep
IIIII - Head nodder
Squa - nice ambient weirdness
Teewok - classic teewok style, great rhythm
Unfolding - nice drums and atmosphere

this is a difficult decision, all entries have some really cool parts, but after a couple of plays I voted for Hseiken.

PS: UMachine deserve an extra vote for the mix and box.net playlist in my opinion.

vote goes to an owl, that was incredible chopping on the voices, you calculated a dope melody! the drums sounded like you were beat juggling the break i thought that was cool

also thought Hseiken had a fly ass beat. IIIII's was also doin it for me, he always comes with that dark scary shit, but with a little hole left open for light to poke out..lol

Hey thanks! Yeah, that's pretty much the only vote I could hope for with beats like IIIII's, An Owl's, Hseiken's, Tee's & Elhuana's. But even then it's not all my doing! Ha!

I think Elhuana modded my first post & added the box.net playlist... At least the mix was mine.

Thanks to An Owl for noticing the Happy Cycling reference, even if it wasn't deliberate. The other drum rhythms were intended to sound like songs I've heard elsewhere though. Ahh, plagiarism!

Haven't voted yet either. Even though I've heard them each dozens of times, I can't pick a winner. Its starting to do my head in.
