Sequencing LEDs via MIDI from an SP-404

Post by CTVH »

I currently use a Roland SP 404 to run backing tracks and drum beats live. I'm looking for a way to create MIDI sequences to control a few LEDs to go along with the drum beats. Is there a way to attach MIDI information for the lights to the audio samples? I assume I would need to send MIDI sequences from the sampler --> MIDI to DMX converter box --> LEDs? Any information on the best way to make this happen would be greatly appreciated.

The 404 only has MIDI in so it can't be used as a sequencer or controller. I don't know anything about lighting but if there is such a thing as a lighting sequencer which can send MIDI information then you might be able to trigger samples with that and have your lights trigger in time with them. Again, I know nothing about lights so I'm just speculating

same here. doesn´t really know lights.

But you could do this with an arduino and MAX MSP. Pretty easy to send controll signals from max based on midi-in messages. But off course, you would need to use a sequencer with midi out.
