ADSR filter workaround with the tremolo effect

I was going to post this in the SP606 tips'n'tricks, but thought it may also apply to other SPs. Its too good a technique to hide away (haven't checked if anyone else has posted a technique like this elsewhere though). If you have a sample you want to fade in/out like you've got a filter controlling a filter's attack & release here's how with an SP:

1, Trim your sample just so its just right.

2, Turn on the SP's metronome to play at all times & set it to the same tempo of your sample.

3, Turn on the tremolo effect (BPM tremolo or standard). Set the depth hard right (aim at 5pm), set the rate of the attack or decay to what you're after.
-To adjust the sample's attack use the saw 1 (ascending or /|/|/| shape)
-To adjust the sample's release use the saw 2 (descending or |\|\|\ shape)

Note- only set one of these at a time. If you want to adjust both, repeat this step later.

4, Resample with the effect on. Time the recording of the resample to the metronome's click. As in, hit record at the same time as a click. Don't worry about the click sound during resampling, the SP won't record it.

5, Trim the sample again (if necessary) then repeat step 3 on the resample to get a long release if you've only adjusted the attack.

Now you've got an accurate & adjustable release on your sample!

Getting the timing on step 4 may take a couple of goes to get right, so keep it up & you'll get it. Let me know if any of this doesn't make sense or needs clarification.

Now- to find a way of altering the decay & sustain aspects... You can also use the metronome when resampling on other tempo based effects (ie- the BPM slicer) to get them to sync correctly.

I think the 606 is the only one with the bpm syncd fx/shape selection you need for this.. maybe 808 as well? you can vaguely do it on the others by just hitting the pad lots while youre resampling to get it to hit at the right time, but yeah.. not as precise

Only the 606 has BPM sync'd FX? Bugger- would've guessed at least the 505 would have it too... Hope someone/anyone gets a bit of useful knowledge out of this technique.

Still the technique will work without the BPM. I just find it sounds tighter with sync than without.
