This mixer looks pretty cool to go with 404 and computer, I don't have any experience with Berhinger stuff but have seen you guys talking about the ufo.

Any thoughts?

If you're on a budget then Im sure it'll do the job,
but I wouldnt buy it unless you had to... probably just the guts of those cheap behringer 202 interfaces with some eq/routing added

I'm not really sure what the point would be - convenient on a budget I suppose - in terms of quality you'd get much better results from just sending raw inputs into a better interface - then eq/mixing in software.

It will work for a week or so, then it will break.

i just bought one of those behringer mixers, its the xenyx1622usb with the effects. I fell in love with it. I know behringer has a bad name and the guy at guitar center actually told me a little story about the CEO but im not going to get into all of that. Behringer is always a gamble. I bought one of those little usb audio interfaces and its noisy as fuck, sounds like an alarm going off in the background. So its a piece of shit. I hooked this 1622 up to the computer and started rocking out tracks like nothing. Finally pulled my compressor out and hooked up the SEND/RETURN. Long talking short, you get what you pay for but do some research. Might find something that does the same things as this but have some added feature and the same price.

Basically with behringer there are 2 products:

A) cheap shit

and

B) OK quality, but high fail rate.

I went through 3 of those 1622fx's before the store would give me credit to buy something else. Each of the three lasted about a week.. The sound quality was fine though, so if you get one that isnt buggered they can be good... you just need to do the research to find out which is a type A product and which is type B

i've had a xenyx 802 for a few years now and i really get a lot of use out of it. no usb, but it's basically the hub of my studio. i have the pt-01 and computer going into channels 1+2. the 404 is going in and out of the tape in/out. its sick cause i can sample from the computer or turntable into the 404 but also bounce from the 404 into the computer w/o unplugging anything. only have to hit the tape to monitor button.
it sounds pretty good and has lasted w/o ANY problems. i'd like to upgrade to the mackie 802 eventually

Behringer is home studio gear for those on a budget. I have a mic-pre from them and its been in use since 2004 and still ticking. The most slept-on company for low-budget gear is Gemini. People bad-mouth them but they make quality gear and their P1000 turntable is a step down from a Technic 1200, its that good.

The best lesson in life is experience rather than word of mouth.

I bought two Euro live 15" for djing at bars. They have not let me down, and are loud as shit and take a beating. I think their higher end stuff is acceptable. So what I am saying is they are not all bad.

My 802 has survived some astonishing drops and a move. I think it depends on what piece of kit you get that determines it's build quality, not the company itself. They have a reputation for being the bargain bin music gear people, but not everything they make is crap. Some of it yes, but most of it is pretty much average or below average but at a really competitive price.
