looks like they built it to me.. wouldnt take much.. wood facade covered in mud.. but maybe, who knows..

khuf, I think the country is going to end up worse off, regardless of what kind of person gaddaffi was.. They have the largest oil reserves in all of africa - before the war it was nationalised - everyone got something from the sale of oil..

Now? I have a feeling the rebels signed a fairly lengthy contract with western countries... might explain why theyve been so keen to bomb all the infrastructure too.. has happened everywhere else the west stuck its nose:

control resources, destroy infrastructure, then rebuild and privatise infrastructure, allow foreign investment.

resources = obvious
privatisation = all of a sudden they are gonna have to pay for services that were free under their socialistic system before.
foreign investment = any money made in libya will go to foreign investors, draining wealth from the country.

This is the standard way they operate throughout the past 50 years - whether through war bargaining, or the IMF/World Bank's "terms and conditions" on their loans..

I see now politicians are wheeling out the weapons of mass destruction debate... trying to scare people again.

The UN itself knows that gaddafi came to them many years ago to voluntarily get rid of his chemical weapons/etc.. What remains is a bit of mustard gas - which is scheduled to be destroyed according to the UN program, also the UN have stated they have surveillance on it and it does not pose any threat within libya or to europe/the US.

Yeah word. He's clearly far from perfect, but the alternative is to basically be governed by other countries (NATO). Libyan workers had some of the highest living standards in Africa before we bombed them. Dude I know was over there last month and apparently support for Gaddafi is pretty huge, there are ordinary citizens camping outside his compound armed with rocks, hardly surprising we don't see pictures of that sort of thing on tv though
