what kind of things do you do to thicken up sample chops?

so for drums that ny compression trick helps me get a fuller sound i was wondering what types of things i could do to thicken up my chops?

I've recently been sampling this African jazz record (Les Baxter) and Charles Mingus - there are lots of great horns, bass and percussion. With a heavy dose of reverb, the horns sound so sexy and Mingus's bass just booms. For me, reverb and isolator are essential for fattening up chops. But others use the compressor, equalizer, vinyl sim or radio tuner to fatten things...

sub sonic on kicks, and high sample rates make for full spectrum kicks, im digging your beats tho man.

this is pretty idealistic but assigning sounds to a specific frequency range is a great way to get stuff to sit well together.

reading The Art of Mixing, a Visual Guide to Recording by David Gibson was really helpful for me, seeing mixes as being layered like a geological diagram of the earth from surface to core...

It was kind of an epiphany when i realized i could do some subtractive EQing to a couple things and the beat would sound 100x better and more interesting.

i think a lot of beats suffer from everything being assigned to the same range. and some beats sound great that way. Anyway, i find it useful to think about this stuff.

yes exactly my bretheren, when all sounds have an assigned range shit starts sounding pretty sweet, especially if you bass and kick drums are seperated, not into the heavy side chaining, However i was for a while, and JUXT . yeah man sub sonic all day, even verrry low so it just a suber low womp.
